Friday 16 March is the final deadline for the Prolific North Awards, an event that recognises the outstanding campaigns and talent in the creative and media industries across the North. The PRCA DARE Awards first deadline is today! We’re on the hunt for the very best Communications and PR professionals across the UK. Does this sound like you? This week we have two new additions to our bureau, and we can’t wait for you to meet them.

Claire Lomas Since her freak accident in the highest level of eventing, Claire has found new sports including skiing, set up a business, written a book and organised fundraising events. Her life has been turned around, but it did have one similarity, she was busy again. Claire speaks publicly about the split second that changed her life, and candidly describes the darkest times alongside the gradual process of turning her situation around, and surprisingly how the best five days of her life have all been after her devastating injury. Richard Charles Lawrence From the height of conflict with the Taliban to studying a masters degree in Philosophy. Richard has gone from successfully solving complex problems on the battlefield to a qualified hypnotherapist, an award-winning salesman in the pharmaceutical industry and a chief instructor of the martial art ‘Keysi’. This week we’ve had a few awards announcements…

Pocket-lint Gadget Awards

Firstly, the Pocket-lint Gadget Awards longlist was released to the public after a first round of nominations. The awards, as in previous years, will be judged by leading industry experts, the public and the Pocket-lint team. Some awards judge products based on all public and no experts, all experts and no public, or even just members of the editorial and advertising teams, but we like to do things differently at Pocket-lint, making sure everyone has their opinion heard.

But don’t worry, you can still submit your gadgets! Nominations are being accepted through to when the shortlist is announced on 3 October 2017. Nominations can be made using the online form. There is no entry fee or charge to nominate and you can nominate as many products and times as you wish. The online form is simple, fill out a few details, note down the gadget name and tell us why you think this gadget should win!

We want to hear what your favourite gadget of the year is, so submit your nominations and votes to make sure the best gadget of the year wins! Find out more here.

Northern Marketing Awards

The Northern Marketing Awards shortlist was announced this Thursday 21 September. The awards celebrate the excellence, creativity and achievements of the marketing industry in the North so our congratulations go to all who made the cut – it truly is an honour to showcase and reward the very best marketing campaigns and agencies across the north. You can view the full lists of finalists here. The quality of entries was extremely high so we’d like to thank to our inspirational judges who had the unenviable task of deciding!

The awards will be presented on Wednesday 1 November 2017 at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester. Join us for a night of sumptuous food and great entertainment to celebrate and reward exceptional marketers across the north. Early bird tickets are available until this Monday 2 October. This week’s events

This week we’ve had the pleasure of managing the annual Benchmark Search Conference for Click Consult. The event took place at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Thursday 21 September 2017. Benchmark Search Conference is the North’s breakthrough marketing event, offering an inspiring, engaging and entertaining day where world-class experts discuss the latest strategies and techniques, and share their own success stories.

Tonight, the events team are located in Liverpool managing the Make a Difference Awards, taking place at the BT Convention Centre, ACC Liverpool. The awards celebrate the significant contributions made to improving the health and wellbeing of patients and staff, recognition of individuals who have shown exceptional quality above and beyond what is expected and teams that have demonstrated improvements in working practices that have, or will benefit patients.

UK Social Media Communications Awards 2017
The UK Social Media Communications Awards, hosted by Connor Phillips, celebrate the very best in social media communications and reward the individuals, companies and organisations who are using online platforms to communicate in fresh and innovative ways. The shortlist for the 2017 awards can be seen here.

eCommerce Show North
eCommerce Show North is the only exhibition outside of London dedicated to eCommerce and reflects the huge commercial marketplace that is the North. Taking place on the 11 & 12th October 2017 at EventCity, Manchester, eCSN will be the biggest ever gathering of eCommerce companies, vendors and suppliers held in the North.

However, entries submitted after the first closing date of 22 September 2017 at 23:59 will be charged a late submission fee. The past two weeks have kept everyone on their toes in DP HQ. Here’s what we’ve been up to…

Last week’s event breakdown

Last week we travelled down to London to host our first event of the Autumn, the UK Public Sector Communication Awards & Conference. The conference and awards took place at the prestigious Montcalm Marble Arch in London on Wednesday 6 September.

The afternoon featured inspirational presentations and talks from a number of high profile speakers in the public sector, including Pinky Badhan – Head of Campaigns for the Prime Minister’s office and Emma Hartley – Head of Campaigns and Corporate Communications for The Electoral Commission. It was a great opportunity to hear public sector communications professionals exploring a number of issues and hot topics occurring in these challenging times and informed the audience about how to successfully do what they need to do, with less money.

The gala dinner and awards ceremony took place later in the evening in the Grand Ballroom. The awards celebrate and reward excellent communication strategies and campaigns, teams and individuals in local and national government, emergency services and not-for-profit bodies from across the UK.

A huge congratulations to everyone who made the shortlist – and especially to those 20 winners who walked away with a prestigious trophy. To see the list of winners, head to the UK Public Sector Communications Awards & Conference website here.

This week’s events

The third UK Agency Awards took place at the Montcalm Marble Arch on Wednesday 13 September 2017. With our biggest attendance to date, the awards rewarded specialist agencies and teams across a broad range of sectors, showcasing excellence in the way their agency is run, marketed and grown. The event saw over 200 creative, digital, PR and marketing professionals gather for one night of celebration. Winners included; Click Consult, Epiphany, Merkle|Periscopix, M&C Saatchi Mobile and Stein IAS. The full list of winners can be found here.

To wrap off the week, the events team have been managing the #PZConnectedConsumer Conference, taking place in Manchester on both Thursday 14 and Friday 15 September. The two-day conference focuses on the Connected Consumer – “Consumers are now even more connected than they ever have been and this has had a significant impact on the way consumers behave and interact with brands globally. In this ever-changing world, it is essential for us all to know what this means for our business.”

World-renowned physical activity expert Greg Whyte is a two-time Olympian and professor of applied sport and exercise science at Liverpool John Moores University. He has published over 200 peer reviewed papers and eight books in the fields of sports performance, exercise physiology, and medicine. He is the Director of Performance at the Centre for Health and Human Performance, and he has helped to raise over £35 million for Comic Relief and Sport Relief.
